COLUMBINE HEALTH CENTER

This poster zine was a one-month project for the Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging. The center needed an engaging, informative piece that highlighted one of its clients while showcasing the programs it offers. My assigned client was an older woman, and to truly capture her story, I conducted several in-depth meetings with her. We discussed her life experiences, hobbies, daily activities, challenges, and the programs she participated in. These conversations provided a rich, personal perspective on how the center’s services positively impact its clients.

One of her key requests was that the poster zine be bright and colorful to reflect her vibrant personality and life. With this in mind, I opted for an illustrative approach to create a cohesive and visually engaging theme. Initially, I considered using photographs, but they didn’t align with the artistic vision I had in mind. Instead, I transformed the provided images into a hand-drawn, illustrated portrait of her. To further bring the design to life, I incorporated bold sun rays and outdoor activity motifs, symbolizing her passion for nature and movement. Additionally, I included an illustration of the health center’s building, a well-known landmark in Fort Collins, to ground the piece in its community setting.
The poster zine went through multiple revisions to ensure it met both the center’s expectations and the design guidelines set by Colorado State University, which endorses the center. After making a few necessary adjustments, the final product was approved. The completed zine consists of four pages with approximately 1,000 words, plus a front poster. Both the center and my client were thrilled with the result. The finished piece was displayed throughout the facility, with copies available for visitors to take home.
